An innovative approach in the classroom implemented by “The Smile of the Child” in cooperation with 5 partners from across Europe

In the framework of the EU-funded project “PREPEI-Protecting Enhancing Participating Educating Informing” a meeting was held in Athens on the 11th and 13th July with participants from ELLINOGERMANIKI AGOGI (Greece), THE SMILE OF THE CHILD (Greece), ASOCIATIA DIRECT (Romania), Association for equal opportunities SEMPER (FYROM) and Nadja Centre Foundation (Bulgaria).

The purpose of this meeting was the exchange of ideas and knowledge among the partners of the project which aim is to reduce incidents of bullying in primary education and early school leaving connected with bullying attitudes in the school environment.

PREPEI will be implemented in the classrooms by teachers. Shadow theatre and, more specifically, traditional Greek figures of Karagiozis will be the main educational tool. Based on three videos of Karagiozis and other Greek traditional figures teachers will educate children about the phenomenon of bullying, the roles of children involved in bullying behaviors, the emotions that they all have and how someone can stop bullying behaviors. The videos will be presented in an interactive way and will not have a specific end. In this way children will have the opportunity to decide about the attitudes that someone can choose in the bullying behavior.

The «Protecting Enhancing Participating Educating Informing» project has 33 month duration and aims to tackle bullying through innovative activities in education, awareness and training addressed to children, educators, teachers, parents and professionals of the private and public sector, in a consolidated effort to set up stronger anti-bullying activities.

The project has a European dimension with partners from 5 countries and is co-financed by the European Union- Erasmus +.
